First Year

TOO SCHOOL FOR COOL

- What's up?
Here are fifteen important things I've learned during my first year at my dream school. Let's do this thang!

1. Stop wasting your time trying to befriend cliques/groups that've grown so close that they never grow sick of each other. Move your ass around and form your own squad.

2. If you live on residence, it's okay not to bond with every single housemate. There are over a gazillion people in your classes, club events, and parties that you have yet to discover.

3. Don't be afraid to go to social events alone. If you have the mentality that going to such gatherings will only be fun with friends then let's face it, you're not really going to a social event. You're just scared to look like a lonely loser at a social event.

4. Stop thinking the "need-to-be-social" is essential in making friends quick. I find it extremely amusing when people ask for your Facebook literally five minutes after you've met them. I've found such a crazy group of friends even when I wasn't looking for friends in the first place. Love yourself and be yourself first and the rest will come on its own.

5. LADIES, boys will come and go. Make some killer girlfriends, kick major ass in your studies first and be sure to keep hydrated from those hangovers and thirsty fuck boys.

6. Try to do all your readings, homework and online webwork one or two day ahead of the deadline. You'll thank yourself later when you can extend that study break to one more hour.

7. Only keep the people who bring out the best in you close to you. Read between the lines with some people as sometimes what they might find funny to themselves may be offensive to you. A friend who tries to outshine is no friend of mine.

8. Travel everywhere; do everything; be open; be restless; be curious; be loving; run don't walk; smile but also cry when you need to; university is a place for all this. And more.

9. Oh god, please don't ever, EVER, have fun for the sake of having fun. You'll thank yourself later when you're not stranded in some lame-ass party because you thought you should have fun every night.

10. Advice is always good, but ultimately, you're the only one who knows what's best for you. Never loosen yourself for people; sometimes it's okay to say no.

11. Get PLENTY of rest before exams the next day. Trust me, there comes a point where cramming just isn't going to cut it anymore.

12. Never dance the night away in heels. Your feet will fall off and you will have to crawl your way back home.

13. Sometimes, it's better to be late for class after snagging some food real quick than sitting through on a starving stomach. Or if you choose to ignore this tip, be prepared to fly over bushes and people to avoid long line-ups at food sources scattered across campus.

14. If you ever screw up your sleeping pattern, it's the end of the road for you.

15. Last but not least: Take a good look yourself in the mirror and give yourself a pat on the back; you made it all the way from the evil roots of high school. Now go out and have a great time.
